Do you have memories of a summer internship? Do you wish you could go back to the days when all you had to do was file a few copies and make a few pots of coffee? Do you remember the friendships you formed with other interns? If you are looking for a fun summer comedy that helps you relive your internship days, then make sure you see The Internship. The film, which boasts an impressive cast of characters, opens in theaters across the United States on June 7.
The movie follows the lives of Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson), two intelligent and of course, funny, salesmen who are trying to defy the economy and the odds by proving that agism won’t keep them out of a Google internship. They believe they can compete with the best, the brightest and the most elite college students in the country, regardless of anyone’s age. That is exactly where Billy and Nick find themselves when they land a prestigious internship at Google. They begin competing against this gaggle of students (Dylan O’Brien and Tiya Sircar, among others) in an internship atmosphere that pits will against will. These interns do much more than make coffee and file copies, but audiences will have to go to the theaters on June 7 to see which intern wins in the end.
Directed by Shawn Levy, The Internship is rated PG-13 for some crude language and sexuality, and it runs nearly 2 hours long. The bottom line is that this is must-see movie for the summer because of the Vaughn-Owen pairing. These two are master comedians and their large fan base will follow them to the theaters, regardless of whether the film tanks. The reality is, however, that this film will tank from a critic’s perspective. It is predictable and routine. This is the movie you would expect Vaughn and Owen to take on together, but it has its moments and audiences will find themselves laughing out loud. Go see this movie because you love Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, because you always have, because you always will. It will not disappoint the true fan.
