The new film introduced by Columbia Pictures, White House Down, hit theaters on Friday, June 28th with a splash. Starring the popular Channing Tatum as Capitol Policeman John Cale, along with famous actor Jamie Foxx cast in the role of President James Sawyer, White House Down is portrayed as a cross between the genres of action, thriller, and drama films. Directed by Roland Emmerich and written by James Vanderbilt, the film has already been allotted a rating of 6.2 out of 10 stars by the website IMDb even though it has only been released for a mere 24 hours, making the movie a must-see for most moviegoers.
The plot centers on Capitol Policeman John Cale, who has just been rejected from the employ of the Secret Service. With his future hopes and dream career of protecting President James Sawyer hanging in mid-air, he decides to give his daughter a grand tour of the White House. However, the White House is suddenly attacked in the midst of the tour and the Capitol Policeman must quickly find a way to fend off an invading paramilitary group while also saving himself, his daughter, the President, and subsequently the nation itself.
The film, White House Down, earned a PG-13 rating by the MPAA for “prolonged sequences of action and violence including intense gunfire and explosions, some language and a brief sexual image.” The mature thematic elements the film features, including the White House being invaded, along with the film’s running total of 131 minutes, might make viewers think twice before bringing small children who are likely to become easily upset or fidgety to the theatre. Overall, however, the popular cast and reputable quality of the production company Columbia Pictures promises that a trip to see White House Down will be worth the time.
