In recent years, the British John Oliver has become a favorite of many American comedy fans. He’s a popular podcaster, as well as a correspondent and guest host on The Daily Show, Comedy Central’s satiric late-night newscast. Oliver is also a sharp and insightful stand-up comic. And he shows off those standup chops with great aplomb on John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show. The premiere of this show’s fourth season airs on Comedy Central July 26, from 11 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. EST.

Stand-Up Show always begins with one of Oliver’s routines, which is followed by sets from a few other comedians. Nick Turner, Colin Jost, and Reggie Watts are included on the July 26 edition. This season consists of six episodes, and it concludes on August 30.

If, however, you’re in a warm-weather, laid-back state of mind, the reality show Summer Camp might be just the frothy fare you’d feel like watching. USA Network will broadcast the Summer Camp episode entitled “Spin the Bottle” on Thursday, July 25, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST. Country singer Matt Rogers, who came in eleventh place on Fox’s American Idol in 2004, hosts.

Summer Camp is similar to many other reality shows in that it features a diverse group of personalities gathering amid picturesque scenery in order to compete, fight, hook up, and most importantly, get their faces on television. On this particular program, sixteen adults — all but two of whom are younger than 30 — spend time beside a lake in Big Bear, California. And every week these campers battle it out in intense games inspired by typical summer camp activities. The show’s producers, by the way, have assigned each contestant a nickname like “The Geek” or “The Model.” Apparently, these nicknames are intended to help viewers better remember the participants.
