Tune-in to The Bachelorette every Monday at 8pm ET on ABC, available through Comcast Cable!
The premiere of the ninth season of the hit ABC reality dating show The Bachelorette followed the formula for nearly every season premiere of the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchise: the title single person meets his or her potential suitors. For this particular season, Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock returns from the previous season of The Bachelor, in which she was one of Sean Lowe’s top four potential wives before he sent her home. That pairing was what Desiree, or, as she prefers, Des, called seemingly perfect and “natural” but ended in devastation. However, Des has returned to television dating in the hopes of completing her fairy tale by finding her Prince Charming in one of the twenty five men she met on last night’s season nine premiere episode.
This season’s cast of potential husbands is very eccentric. The first quirky character of the season is Nick. Nick is a custom clothier by trade but also works as a freelance magician. While he has an incredibly unique job combination title (tailor/magician), the social ramifications of dating a magician may prove too much for Des to handle.
Another guy is Zak, a drilling fluid engineer who came to the cocktail party shirtless. He begged the corny question, “Desiree, will you accept these abs?”
Mike R. comes from London but has somehow lost his accent, which, in his own words, makes him thirty percent less attractive. To add to his detriment, Mike, a dentist, wore his work outfit to the cocktail party.
Another guy came to the party exuding cheesiness when he met Des and said, “Desiree, hashtag marriage material.”
Two guys proved to be very fine men and possible suitors. Bryden is a veterinarian who told a story about his dog as well as a young child he met in Iraq. And Pablo is a former professional soccer player from Venezuela who impressed Des with his soccer skills as well as his smooth accent.
The first rose of the evening went to Ben, a Texan entrepreneur and single dad who introduced Des to his son at their first meeting. Des also gave a rose to the shirtless Zak for his efforts at cannonballing into the swimming pool. Three guys were sent home: the ER doctor, the tailor/magician, Mike the dentist, and the interesting fellow who showed up in a suit of armor.
